The New 2007 Steiff "Jewels" Swarovski Bear

We hope that you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and are looking forward to the upcoming Christmas holidays. . . .

Today, Steiff's Jewels Swarovski Bear (EAN 669873) arrived. She is an adorable light peach colored mohair bear and a stunning addition to the Steiff's series of Swarovski bears. This mohair bear is based on a classic 1950's Steiff design, and has a very unique light peach-colored Xilion crystal "Button in Ear". Jewel's name is delicately embroidered on one of her paws. Her hand-stiched nose is heart-shaped and the Swarovski crystal heart, engraved with "2007", that she wears around her neck is half clear crystal and half gold colored crystal. Absolutely adorable.

Madame Alexander's Charlotte's Web Trunk Set Released Just in Time for Movie

Did you know that the movie "Charlotte's Web" will be released on December 20, 2006? This holiday movie has gotten rave reviews and its movie cast is very impressive. To name just a few well-known stars:

  • Robert Redford plays Ike, the horse

  • Oprah Winfrey plays Gussy, the goose

  • Kathy Bates plays Bitsy, the cow

  • Rebe McEntire plays Betsy, the cow

  • Julia Roberts plays Charlotte A. Cavatica, the well-known spider

  • Dominic Scott Kay (a newcomer child actor) who plays Wilbur, the pig

Charlotte's Web was written by EB White in 1952, and is definitely still considered a classic.

Madame Alexander has introduced two 8-inch Wendy dolls to mark the debut of this movie - Charlotte's Web, and most recently Charlotte's Web Trunk Set. (As always, Beacon's Glow Collectibles includes a Madame Alexander logoed doll stand free of charge with the purchase of any Madame Alexander 8 or 10 inch doll purchase).

We Are Deeply Saddened

We received the news that Pauline Bjonness-Jacobsen, creator of the infamous "Dolls by Pauline" and "Paulinette" lines of dolls, passed away this past Saturday, October 7, 2006, after a long struggle with cancer.

Her son, Ernst, emailed us late last night with the following:

"Dear Friends,
We have heartbreaking news to share with you. Pauline passed away in the early morning of Saturday, October 7th. Throughout her last days, Pauline remained enthusiastic about designing and had her sketch pad and artwork with her.
She remained hopeful about her recovery and excited about all the things which she wanted to do. We will miss her so very, very much but she will always be in our hearts.
I have attached the memorial details we are sharing with family and friends.
We will have an area where we will display photos of Pauline, flowers that she so enjoyed, some of her artwork, as well as a display containing emails, letters and copies of posted messages from the message board on the Pauline Collectibles website.
Warm regards, Ernst"

Pauline will be deeply missed by us all, and never forgotten. . . .

Quote for the Day -
"Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away into the next room,
I am I and you are you;
Whatever we were to each other,
That we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used,
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we shared together.
Let my name ever be the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant,
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well."

Ginny Christmas Dolls

We were fortunate to get several Vogue Gingerbread Boy and Gingerbread Girl Vintage Ginny Dolls, as we have been informed by the Vogue Doll Company that "For Santa's Reindeer" has already sold out.

These two dolls make an adorable pair as each is dressed in a brown gingerbread outfit and holds a miniature metal gingerbread cookie cutter in their hand. Gingerbread Boy wears a holiday red scarf and knit winter's hat, and Gingerbread Girl wears a cute crimped hat.

Supplies are very limited so if you are interested, we might suggest that you purchase them in the very near future.

The Origin of the Company Name Beacon's Glow Collectibles

Oftentimes, our customers ask how the name of our company, Beacon's Glow Collectibles, came to be. The owner of our company came up with this company's name when the company was formed back in the Fall of 2003.

She has always had a love for lighthouses (in fact, she has her own lighthouse dollhouse that she built several years back that even has a working beacon). The calming and serene feeling that one's gets at nighttime when watching a lighthouse beacon is beyond words. The beacon glow is indeed mesmerizing and yet rather mystical at the same time.

Hence, a love for collectibles and a love for lighthouses helped in creating the name "Beacon's Glow Collectibles".

Boyd's Star Spangled Nick Christmas Set

We were very fortunate to receive in today Boyd's Star Spangled Nick Christmas Sets. If you have never gotten the opportunity to see one of these sets, they stand a full 3 feet tall and are very impressive-looking. Star Spangled Nick comes elaborately dressed in an Americana Santa's outfit, and has an incredible looking face and soft white beard. The image just does not do him justice. This set has been retired by Boyd's so once these are sold, they will no longer be available.

He is either holding or surrounded by Boyd's Old Glory Collection bears - Jennie Glorybear, Old Glory Peeker, Ike Glorybear, and Bess. All of these items are now retired but we still have a few left in stock.

Additionally, Star Spangled Nick holds a large patriotic star ornament and a distressed wooden cart painted in red, white and blue sits atop the very sturdy base. In addition to Bess, a decorative heart-shaped box is nestled within the wooden cart. A small wooden drum with "USA" written on the front completes this set.

This is a must have Christmas decoration that will impress family and friends over the holidays with its impressive size and excellent attention to detail. Truly a collectible that can be passed down for generations.

Fall Has Finally Arrived in Texas

Because of the extremely hot summer in Texas, we were forced to remove all candles and wax dipped animals from the site a couple of months back. We did not want our customers to receive any of their wax items damaged during shipping because of melting. With record temperatures in Texas exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit throughout much of the summer, melting during transit was inevitable.

Just recently, we have re-introduced all Lang Primitive Jar Candles; Bear Dips by Beacon's Glow; and Little Dippers by Ganz back on the site.

Additionally, beginning October 1, 2006, we will once again promote our "Lang Candle of the Month" special.

Enjoy this wonderful Fall weather!

The Many Faces of Madame Alexander

Enclosed within the inside of the cover of the 2004 Madame Alexander catalog was a description of all of the various doll face sculpts througout the Alexander Doll Company's long and very successful history.

We refer to this guide often so we thought you might be interested in seeing the birthdates for several of Madame Alexander's more popular face sculpts.

  • Wendy (1953 - present)

Born in 1956. Reborn in 2006. Madame Alexander Lissy Dolls Have Arrived!

2006 marks an important year in the history of the Alexander Doll Company. They have re-introduced 12" Lissy, oftentimes known as Wendy's older sister.

We received in the first two Lissy dolls this past Saturday, and we have all agreed that they are much, much nicer in person than their images.

Both Spring Parade Lissy, and Homecoming Lissy, each come from a limited edition of only 400 dolls. We anticipate that more Lissys will be introduced during 2007.

According to the wonderful book, "Madame Alexander Dolls, An American Legend" by Stephanie Finnegan, Lissy was introduced in 1956 and was produced until 1965. Lissy was introduced as a pre-teen; the innocent-looking face was later used for Little Women. In 1963 the Lissy Classics Group used it for characters such as Scarlett O'Hara and Cinderella. A set of Little Women with this with this face was reproduced in the early 1990's.

We didn't think that the Boyd's 2006 Harvest & Holiday items would ever get here. It seems so long since they were initially ordered that we were getting anxious.

It is so good to hear that the Boyd's Company is back on their feet, so to speak, and doing well. We certainly hope that they have a prosperous 2006 holiday season.

A Long, Hot Summer

Hopefully, all of you are finding some relief from this extremely hot summer - thank goodness for air conditioning. Here in Central Texas the summer heat has been just stiffling - pretty much every day it hits at least 100 degrees, and with the humidity in the air, the heat index makes it feel like it is much more than 100.

We thought we would try something new with our blog. In addition to keeping you posted on new inventory that is arriving, as well as personal comments as to what items are real eye-catchers, we are going occasionally close each blog entry with an inspirational quote for the day.

The owner has always been very fond of the poet and author, Ralph Waldo Emerson, so don't be surprised if you oftentimes will see quotes from him posted from time to time.

By the way, Madame Alexander's "Spirit of New Orleans" arrived recently, and she is much nicer than in her photo. Her dramatic purple satin dress is very nice, and the gold accents on her dress really highlight the magnificant purple material. Also, the first flat-footed 21" Cissy doll,A Charmed Life, arrived this past Friday, and she is a gorgeous doll. Please note that with the purchase of all 2006 21" Cissy dolls that a 21" Dress Form, and free shipping is included with each doll. (Also, please note that contained below the description of each Cissy doll, there is a category named "Miscellaneous Information'". This lets you know which particular edition number is currently available for purchase).

We just got word that another 2 large shipments of Madame Alexander dolls are on their way; so please check back often and we will get them on the site as soon as we can.

2006 Madame Alexander 21 inch Cissy Dolls Starting to Arrive

As previously promised by the Alexander Doll Company, July is the month that the 2006 21" Cissy Dolls are being shipped out to retailers.

Late yesterday we received two of these eight exquisite beauties.

Noveau Dynamite Cissy (just in case you didn't know "nouveau" means new in French), is quite striking with her dark skin color, platinum blonde hair, and incredible green-blue eyes. We were quite excited as we received low edition numbers of this Cissy. Currently we have #7 of only 150 dolls featured on the site.

We were taken aback by the beauty of Scene Stealer Cissy when opening her box. Her curly auburn red hair and incredible blue eyes really enhance her classic navy blue silk dress. Incidentally, Scene Stealer Cissy comes from theVintage Alexander Collection, and she is a limited edition #22 of 200. All of these dolls are a special tribute to Madame's most legendary sculpts and highly regarded creations from earlier eras.

Please note that with the purchase of any 21" Cissy dolls in stock, you will receive a 21" Madame Alexander Dress Form free of charge. (This is a $49.95 value).

If you are interested in a particular Cissy that you do not see on the site, please don't hesitate to contact us and we can track down when her anticipated arrival is.

New 2006 Bearington Fall & Holiday Inventory Continues to Arrive

A second huge shipment of 2006 Fall and Christmas Bearington Inventory arrived late last week. (The intial shipment arrived back during the weekend of June 24). We were quite surprised at how early the Christmas inventory was shipped by Bearington, but then again, if you are like some of us, you are already thinking about Christmas gifts for all of those special people on your list.

All new items are now out on the site and available for purchase. Some Bearington items that really caught our eye and might very well turn into "must haves" for Bearington Bear collectors are:

  • The set of Grandfather Frost & Lady Flurry (The outfits on both of these bears is so very nice, and their coats are even lined). A beautiful Christmas pair. . .

  • Holly Harvesting (Sure to be a Fall favorite, Holly Harvesting wears a pumpkin orange fine corduroy dress and holds a ceramic pumpkin in her paw)

  • Keri & Teri (the colors in Keri's dress are so pretty and the little Yorshire terrier puppy dog she holds in her arms is just adorable)

  • The set of Madame Holiday & Sir Nicholas (Sure to be a Bearington Christmas favorite)

  • Trinity Tree Topper (The first Christmas tree topper to ever be introduced by Bearington.) Couldn't you just picture a Christmas tree with Trinity sitting on top and adorned with Bearington's miniature plush ornaments?
But, then again, there are so many nice pieces from this 2006 Bearington Fall & Christmas Collection that it would be hard to choose a favorite.

Almost Forgot to Mention. . .

As a result of the very hot summer here in Central Texas, all Lang candles; Little Dippers by Ganz; and Bear Dips by Beacon's Glow items have been taken off of the site until further notice. These items will once again be available for purchase after the temperatures are no longer in the 90-100 degree range. We expect this to be probably in September sometime.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you would like for us to either give you a call or email you once these candle/wax items are back on the Beacon's Glow Collectibles site.

Horace, the Longfellow Bear by Steiff Has Arrived

Horace, the Longfellow Bear (EAN 652332), a Steiff North American Exclusive, arrived today and is quite incredible. He stands 24 inches tall and is made of the softest brown mohair. In case you did not know, Horace, the Longfellow Bear is the 1904 Steiff bear of Priscilla Longfellow Thorp, who was the granddaughter of famous American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Horace was a well-traveled bear and rubbed shoulders with some famous people of the early 20th century. They say that he even shook paws with his namesake, Theodore Roosevelt. Steiff has reproduced Horace as he appears in turn of the century family photographs. You can’t help but be charmed by his velvet paw pads. These are an exact reproduction of Horace’s paw pads—which were patched over by a nanny in the 1920’s from material from an old velvet cape.

Horace has a kind and gentle look on his face, and also an incredible classic Steiff growler. After taking him out of his shipping box to make sure that he made the long trip without any damage, it was difficult putting him back in his box and in his proper place on the inventory shelf.

The Paulinettes (Carolyn, Marina, & Selena) Have Arrived!

We are very happy to announce that Pauline's three (3) new Paulinettes arrived last night and are now out on the site. It was so much fun getting to open up each and every box. It is very hard to determine a favorite out of the three as they are all so different and adorable in their own way.

First there is Carolyn, an adorable little blue-eyed girl with blonde ringlets, and full pouty lips. Her dress is beautiful - a pale pink silk dress edged in green silk and the bodice of her dress adorned with hand-smocked roses. Carolyn comes with her own teddy bear.

Then there is Marina, a blue-eyed fair faced little girl in braids, dressed in a turn-of-the-century white and blue nautical dress. Marina comes with her own little rag doll.

Finally, there is Selena, a Latino brown-eyed beauty that comes dressed in a beautiful white dress with sheer overlay adorned with delicate hand-smocked roses across both the bodice and hem of her dress. Selena comes with a little doll dressed in pink.

All three of these 8" Paulinettes are from limited editions of only 500 dolls. We are excited to be able to finally offer these beautiful dolls to our customers. This puts the number of Paulinettes available for purchase up to 14 different Paulinettes now.

"The Spirit of New Orleans" Doll by the Alexander Doll Company

The effects of Hurricane Katrina can still be painfully felt, although it has been longer than nine months since this horrific natural disaster occurred. Did you know that this was the costliest hurricane ever to hit the US, and damage is estimated at $75 billion dollars? More than 500,000 children were torn from the place they once called home and relocated to new and strange surroundings. Many New Orleans families were placed in new residences throughout Texas, to include Austin (and Pflugerville, Texas, where Beacon's Glow Collectibles is located).

Beacon's Glow Collectibles has been honored to be chosen as one of the Alexander Doll Company's retailers located in the South that can offer this very special "The Spirit of New Orleans" doll. This incredible 8" Wendy doll comes dressed in an exquisite purple Mardi Gras gown trimmed in gold and green. She holds a whimsical Mardi Gras gold mask. (A portion of this sale of this doll will be contributed to the K.I.D.S. Foundation which assists in providing clothing, shoes, toys, and books to those people in need, specifically Katrina victims at this time).

We have already ordered "The Spirit of New Orleans" and we are anxious to receive her. If you are interested in obtaining one of these very special dolls, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We all hope that you and yours have a safe and wonderful Fourth of July Holiday!!!

Vintage Madame Alexander Dolls

If you hadn't heard, this year the Alexander Doll Company is introducing their "Vintage Collection". These dolls were made as a tribute to Madame's most legendary sculpts and highly regarded creations from earlier eras. Each comes in a special collectible tin doll box, and all come from a small limited edition.

Beacon's Glow Collectibles has received all but two (2) Vintage Collection Cissys - Scene Stealer Cissy, and Retro Revival Jacqui. Hopefully, these will be arriving in the next month or so. Please let us know if you are interested, and we can let you know when they arrive.

Currently in stock from this special collection are 2 8" Wendy dolls: Little Southern Miss, and Signs of Spring; and 2 10" Cissette Dolls: Picking Bouquets and Summer of '57. (Picking Bouquets has been nominated for the prestigious 2006 DOLLS Award of Excellence. We sure hope that she wins, as she is a very nice doll.

Steiff's New Ornament Arrivals

We just received in two of Steiff's North American Exclusives Christmas ornaments and they are just precious. One is the Christmas Swan Ornament (EAN 668579) - an adorable white mohair swan and her beak is made of trevira velvet which has been delicately airbrushed. She comes from a limited edition of 1500 pieces.

The second Christmas ornament that has already arrived is the Bear on Wheels Ornament (EAN 668609), a personal favorite of the owner of Beacon's Glow Collectibles. Bear on Wheels has been nominated for the 2006 Golden Teddy Award. This beautiful baby bear stands 4 inches tall, and wears an embroidered felt saddle and a velvet ribbon accented with a golden bell. He is second in the series of Animal Ornaments on Wheels. This adorable ornament is based on a 1952 design, and is cleverly limited to an edition of 1952 pieces.

Wouldn't it be an incredible sight to have one's Christmas tree decorated only in Steiff ornaments? :)

New Paulinettes Arrival Slightly Delayed

Just heard from Ernst Jacobsen, Pauline Bjonness-Jacobsen's son, that the three new 8-inch Paulinettes (Marina, Selena, and Caroline) should be shipping out to retailers towards the end of June. The initial estimate was mid-May.

Definitely a case of good things come to those who wait!

Additionally, 2 new Paulinettes (Amelia and Lily) will be introduced during the August/September timeframe. (Photos are expected to be available mid-July, and we will post these as soon as we receive them.) Also, the adorable Amish Paulinette pair, Annie and Jacob, are going to be re-introduced. For those of you anxiously awaiting their return (including myself), this will be a perfect chance to add this pair to your collection.

I got the priviledged opportunity to chat with Pauline herself a couple of months back. What a sweet and dear individual. I felt honored to be able to speak with this special celebrity.
Pauline Bjonness-Jacobsen has been creating wonderful Pauline dolls since the 1980's, and as can be expected, has quite a following.

Boyds Bears Update

Boyd's is constantly adding to their Heart to Heart collection of bears. These reasonably priced bears are a great buy, and all of these bears come with the Boyd's signature embroidered heart on their paw. Beacon's Glow Collectibles currently have 22 Heart to Heart Collection bears in stock, and 3 new bears were added yesterday. They are: Alexis, Dawn Marie, and Hannah.

Probably the most popular Boyd's item this summer is the Bug Jar with Copper Finish. There is a battery compartment contained in the lid that holds two "AA" batteries. The fireflies (aka lightening bugs depending on which part of the country you live in) fade in and out with a yellow glow. What a clever idea!

Hello Kitty Madame Alexander Dolls Now in Stock

Both of the "My New Friend Hello Kitty" (Caucasian and Asian) 8" Madame Alexander dolls have arrived and are now in stock. These adorable dolls come with their own miniature "Hello Kitty" plush and are just adorable. They are modeled after the very popular Japanese cartoon phenomenon, Hello Kitty, iniatially introduced back in 1974.

We were thrilled to finally receive these Alexander Doll Company dolls as they were scheduled to be delivered back in April of this year.

Please keep in mind that, as is always the case with the purchase of any Madame Alexander 8" or 10" doll, a Madame Alexander logoed doll stand is included free of charge with the purchase of each doll.

Welcome to Our Blog!

Welcome to the Beacon's Glow Collectibles Blog! My name is Brenda and I am the owner (and webmaster) of Beacon's Glow Collectibles. As many of you already know, I have a background in Information Technology and love to learn the intricacies of computer software. Recently, I read an article on one of my favorite webmaster newsletters (Site Pro News) on blogging, and how it is taking the Internet world by storm. So, I decided to research the possibility of blogging on our site, and here is my first attempt after taking some time to get our blog set up.

Incidentally, for those of you who do not already know about Beacon's Glow Collectibles, we carry many fine gift and collectible manufacturer lines to include: Madame Alexander, Lee Middleton, Marie Osmond, Ginny Dolls by Vogue, Dolls by Pauline, The Doll Maker by Linda Rick, Precious Moments dolls; Jan McLean, & Susan Wakeen Dolls; Steiff North American Exclusives as well as Steiff Worldwide Classic Collection, Robin Rive, Bearington Collection, Boyd's Collection, Annette Funicello Bears & Ganz Cottage Bears.

We also carry a nice selection of Little Dippers by Ganz; Bear Dips by Beacon's Glow; and Lang candles, but because of the sizzling summer temperatures we have been experiencing here in Central Texas, we have had to discontinue sales of these items until the Fall when the temperatures begin to cool down a bit.

Our online store carries more than 1,000 different collectible items, and we have been in business since the fall of 2003.
