Phantom of the Opera by Steiff (EAN 037184)

Last night we received in our shipment from Steiff which included the incredible Phantom of the Opera (EAN 037184). These were ordered months ago, and we were somewhat disappointed that they did not arrive in time for Christmas ordering, but then again, good things come to those who wait, right?

This wonderful brown mohair teddy bear comes from a limited edition of 2000 pieces worldwide. His nose and bear claws are embroidered by hand, and he has a mask and a rose embroidered on his black velvet cape.

As Steiff says, "there is a secret hidden deep down inside of him". If you talk to this Teddy Bear he will play you one of seven emotional tunes from the Phantom of the Opera musical and you can actually choose which tune you would like to hear. In his tummy, he has an exclusively developed voice-controlled music box. You can even adjust the volume by your voice also. This teddy bear, of course, understands both English and German.

Marie Osmond 100 Years of Kisses Has Arrived

We are excited to announce that we have received in a limited supply of Marie Osmond's "100 Years of (Hershey's) Kisses" dolls.

These adorable dolls commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Hershey's Kiss chocolate. When these irresistible chocolate candies were introduced back in 1907 each and every Hershey's Kiss was hand-wrapped.

100 Years of Kisses comes dressed in a chocolate brown satin dress with royal blue sleeve insets and netting. A silver and royal blue ribbon is tied around her waist, as well as her cute brunette pigtails. She holds a Hershey's Kiss in the palm of her hand and has that same cute look on her face as all of Marie's Hershey's Chocolate porcelain dolls. Incidentally, every Hershey's chocolate doll that Marie Osmond Dolls produces is sculpted by the very talented doll artist, Ping Lau.

We here at Beacon's Glow Collectibles are curious if Marie will introduce a 100 Years of Kisses Tiny Tot in the upcoming year.

Why Consumers Prefer to Shop Online Rather Than in Stores During the Holiday Season

The National Retail Federation (NRF) is the world's largest retail association. Its members include department store, specialty, discount, catalog, Internet, and independent retailers, and chain restaurants and grocery stores. Their predictions and reports are highly regarded amongst both small and large retail businesses. According to the NRF, these are the top reasons that consumers prefer to shop online, rather than in stores, during the holidays:

1. To avoid crowds (#1 reason)
2. More convenient to shop online
3. To avoid lines at the store
4. Easier to compare prices
5. Easier to find items online
6. Easier to compare products
7. Better Variety online
8. High gas prices

We found this interesting and hope that you will also.

Marie Osmond Dolls Price Match Guarantee with QVC

We here at Beacon's Glow Collectibles wanted to let all of you Marie Osmond Doll fans know that we will always match the price on any Marie Osmond Doll that QVC has to offer.

If you see a doll on QVC that you are interested in and we currently have that doll, please don't hesitate to email us (info@beaconsglow.com) or give us a call at 512-990-9881 and we will immediately match the price for that doll.

Please note that we have been informed by several doll collectors that QVC charges sales tax on all doll purchases. As mandated by the State of Texas, Beacon's Glow Collectibles only charges sales tax on orders placed in Texas.

We are receiving in Marie's new dolls on a weekly basis. It looks like Charisma Brands, the distributor of Marie's dolls, is streamlining their doll distribution after having some challenges after their warehouse move from California to Maryland. This is certainly welcome news as the wait for new doll arrivals this past summer was a bit lengthy.

Marie Osmond Rosebud Ornaments

Beacon's Glow Collectibles is expanding their Marie Osmond inventory to include Marie's Rosebud Ornaments.

Each ornament is approximately 5 inches and consists of a circle decorated in ribbons and roses with a Rosebud doll bust attached. These adorable ornaments can either be hung by the attached ribbon or set on a table as the base of the doll is flat and suitable for display.

Additionally, each ornament is hallmarked with Marie's signature and hand-numbered on the back of her neck. The card inside included with each doll reads as follows: "Marie Osmond is pleased to offer a series of porcelain rose-inspired doll ornaments that will have your holidays "coming up roses!" Each ornament reflects the beauty, colorization, and essence of the actual rose it's named after to fill your home with beauty throughout the holidays and all year long."

We expect to be receiving in the rest of Marie's Rosebud ornaments in the next several weeks.

Absolutely perfect for that holiday tree of yours, or as a nice ornament to hang in a window or sit in a special place.

The Future of the Doll Industry

This month's DOLLS Magazine issue has a very interesting article titled "Industry Forecast". For those of you who have not had the opportunity to read this article, here are a few highlights taken from that article.

"Although no on can absolutely predict the future, there are signs that indicate market direction and growth potential. Serious doll collectors have not gone away. In fact, people have been collecting dolls for thousands of years and it's likely they'll continue to collect dolls for thousands of years to come. This is an indication that doll collecting is not just a passing fad, but also a stable industry with dedicated, loyal collectors who create a solid base from which to expand.

In a survey recently compiled by Jones Publishing, nearly 20 percent of the doll manufacturers responding felt the market will be slightly up in the next ten years and a whopping 80 percent felt the doll market will dramatically rise in the next ten years. What are their reasons for such optimism? Many have been through it before. They recognize the trends, monitor the reception of new products and hear firsthand the enthusiasm of the new collector base.

There is much reason for optimism in the doll business. These strong indicators point to a positive future and provide assurance that the dolls we love and cherish will continue to be produced. We can anticipate new concepts and designs that can be added to our collections and maybe even create new areas of interest for us." Written by Joe Jones, DOLLS Publisher

This is great news, and we here at Beacon's Glow collectibles are thrilled to be part of the wonderful world of doll collecting!

Madame Alexander's Sweetheart of the Corn Doll

Madame Alexander's Sweetheart of the Corn arrived late yesterday and she is certainly worthy of her own post. Since the Alexander Doll Company has labelled her as "Vintage Kellogg's", we can certainly assume that there will be more in this new 2007 Collection.

This adorable blonde haired, blue-eyed 8-inch Wendy doll comes dressed in a light blue and white checkered dress with red and white striped cotton detailing. The front of her dress is adorned with a green felt Kellogg's rooster. Also known as Cornelius the Rooster, this colorful character made his debut in 1958, and has graced the front of the Kellogg's Corn Flakes box ever since.

Also included with this Sweetheart of the Corn Wendy doll is a plush Tony the Tiger, a plush Toucan Sam, and a shiny silver cereal spoon. Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Tony the Tiger "roared" onto the scene back in 1951 with his famous line, "They're Gr-r-reat!" Toucan Sam, famous character on Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal box, made his debut back in 1963.

Incidentally, the Kellogg's Company celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2006. Waking up to these cereal boxes has been a way of life since most of us were small children.

As with all 8-inch and 10-inch Madame Alexander dolls purchased at Beacon's Glow Collectibles, a free Madame Alexander logo doll stand is included with this purchase of this adorable "Sweetheart of the Corn" Wendy doll.

Steiff Cockerel 1892 by Steiff (EAN 411519)

Steiff Cockerel 1892 by Steiff (EAN 411519) has just recently arrived at Beacon's Glow Collectibles.

This magnificant Steiff cockerel rooster is quite stunning. This is a very special replica that dates back to the time with Steiff's founder, Margarete Steiff was still making toys with her own hands. (For those of you that didn't know, Margarete's first creations were felt elephants). She was quite a woman, and a true female entrepreneur for her time.

This magnificant rooster is made from 35 separate layers of felt in 12 different colors. Since the legendary "Button in Ear" had not yet been introduced in 1892, this Cockerel 1892 by Steiff (EAN 411519) is given the first official button with an elephant logo. He comes from a limited edition of 1000 pieces worldwide.

We are quite pleased to get the opportunity to carry this wonderful Steiff piece. Pleade don't hesitate to contact us if you would like any additional information on this Steiff Cockerel 1892 by Steiff.

Boyds Bear Collection Category Reorganized

Our Boyd's Bear Collection Category of inventory has been reorganized. We were finding that in trying to make each new line of Boyd's Plush (e.g., Classic Cottage, Old Glory, Country Patchwork) a separate category, our main subcategory was getting way too large. We still continue to keep many of the same distinct Boyd's Subcategories on the site but have reorganized both the plush and resin lines.

So, to help with this, we have created two new categories that are a catch-all for all plush and resin lines. These new subcategories are:

  1. Boyds Plush

  2. Boyds Resin Figurines

The name of each Boyd's Plush line is listed at the front of the item's name so that they remained grouped together as much as possible.

As always, it makes it quite easy to use the search available on the site to find that special Boyds Bear that you are looking for.

Please let us know if this helps to simplify looking around in the Boyd's Bear Category of our site. As always, your comments are very welcome.

Go Green at Beacon's Glow Collectibles

Since the disastrous effects of global warming were brought to the public's attention by Al Gore with "An Inconvenient Truth", many companies have instituted new Go Green initiatives. These initiatives will help curtail the effects of global warming and minimize pollution. Currently 83% of Americans believe that global warming is a serious problem.

In keeping with the important GO Green initiative of recycling, Beacon's Glow Collectibles has consistently used recycled packing materials and boxes whenever possible to ship out customer orders.

(Did you know that every item thrown away has taken energy and resources to manufacture and transport, and it will take even more energy and resources to process and dispose of? So the old adage still rings true: reduce, reuse, recycle. )

Please do your part by instituting one or several Go Green initiatives!

Permanent Price Reductions Taken on Many Inventory Lines

Happy Spring! (Although Summer is quickly upon us. . . June 21st is the first day of Summer by the way). Spring in Central Texas has been an unusually wet one, but everything remains very green which is a most welcome change.

Just to let you know, permanent price reductions have been taken on several of our inventory lines. We made this decision after realizing that putting these items on special with our Monthly Specials makes the timing difficult for some our our customers. We will also be getting in new Summer and Fall inventory in the near future and could sure use some more space for this new inventory.

These five lines listed below are either unavailable to order any longer due to reasons beyond our control, or we have made the decision to phase out these lines. (The new pricing is 25 - 30% off manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP)).

Those inventory lines are:

  1. Annette Funicello Collectible Bears
  2. Doll Maker Dolls - Linda Rick
  3. Ganz Collectibles
  4. Jan McLean Designs Dolls
  5. Robin Rive Bears

We have also decided to reduce both pre-2007 Bearington, Boyd's Bears, and Lee Middleton Dolls in stock.

As always, thank you for your continued patronage at Beacon's Glow Collectibles!

Happy Mother's Day!

We here at Beacon's Glow Collectibles hope that all of you have a wonderful Mother's Day and get the opportunity to share this very special day with family and friends.

As is always the case, the Alexander Doll Company is introducing some incredible new dolls this month.

As a special tribute to Cissette's 50th anniversary (1957 - 2007) the 50th Anniversary Cissette has been debuted. She is just beautiful in her floor-lenth gold evening gown with rhinestones embedded into her gown. A very stunning doll.

Also celebrating 50 years is the creation of Dr. Seuss' infamous book, "The Cat in the Hat". The Alexander Doll Company has created a doll specifically for this milestone.

We are excited about receiving the "Desparate Housewive" dolls expected to arrive sometime in August. With all of the publicity these dolls have already received, there is no doubt that they will be very popular and highly sought after by fans.

We find it amazing that the Alexander Doll Company continually introduces such wonderful dolls year after year after year. Can you imagine how much fun it would be to work at the Alexander Doll Company and be part of the creation of these dolls?

The Most Beautiful Time of the Year in Central Texas

Happy Spring! Spring has graced us here in Central Texas and the bluebonnets are just spectacular with all of the rain that we have been getting.

According to historian Jack Maguire, "The Bluebonnet is to Texas what the Shamrock is to Ireland". We can certainly attest to this. Most of the countryside is covered in bluebonnets, or other wild flowers. Texans owe a special thank you to Lady Bird Johnson for her diligence and efforts in spreading wild flower seeds across the state.

Please take a look at these wonderful photos taken by the "Texas National Press" to see what we mean:

We'll be back in touch shortly with some of the wonderful inventory that has been arriving at Beacon's Glow Collectibles.

A Winter Storm in Central Texas?

It has been an interesting week in Central Texas - continuous ice storms basically shut down Austin and its surrounding vicinities Monday through Wednesday. The roads were so icy that the postal service and UPS did not make deliveries. It has been decades since Central Texas has been hit with a storm like this. Everything was so pretty covered with an icy glaze. . .

Happy New Year to All! Beacon's Glow Collectibles is looking forward to another great year, and feel blessed to have such wonderful customers. . . doll & bear collectors are the absolute best!

Our manufacturers have some wonderful collectible lines out for 2007. We are already receiving in 2007 inventory from Boyds, Bearington, and Lee Middleton. Soon to arrive will be Marie Osmond Dolls, Steiff Teddy Bears, Pauline Dolls, and Madame Alexander Dolls.
